Magic 8 Ball Says: REPLY HAZY, TRY AGAIN
While trying to iron out the details for the big move to AO3, we discovered some things we should clarify before sign-ups go live. Now that Remix/Redux 8 has been announced, it's time to roll up our sleeves and get to work.
First, just to clarify: to qualify in a fandom you must have written at least five (5) stories of 500 words or more, or a minimum of seven (7) stories of 100 words or more in that fandom. These numbers must exclude previous remixes, and co-written stories. This means that if an author has six (6) Supernatural stories of 100 words, and another two in that fandom of 500 words, that author would qualify in Supernatural. However, if the same author has four (4) Merlin stories of 500 words, and one (1) that is only 400 words, that author would not qualify in the Merlin fandom. This is the same rule as last year, and will not be changing.
Now, however, is your chance to expand our 40 currently qualifying fandoms. The list for Remix 7 can be found at last year's sign-up form. (Please don't submit that form to sign-up for Remix 8, that will be done through AO3 when the time comes.)
It's already been decided that Remix 8 will see the addition of DCU, NCIS, NCIS LA, and the split of new and old Doctor Who. So there's no need to push for those. On the other hand, we are currently on the fence about adding Sherlock Holmes, Glee, and White Collar.
Before making your suggestions you should keep in mind that fandoms that would qualify for

Re: SHERLOCK HOLMES
I would love it if Sherlock Holmes was included! I would definitely sign up to remix, and depending on when the fest is, I may have enough fics to qualify to be remixed.(I've posted on several Holmes comms asking people to vote!)

Re: GLEE
I don't qualify in it, but from what I've seen, Glee is a pretty huge fandom and might not qualify for Yuletide next year 'cause of it, so it might be good to include it.2 years ago

And on that note, how does one count crossovers between classic and new Doctor Who or Doctor Who and its spinoffs when figuring qualifying stories?

I suppose you could lump it in with Merlin, but there are quite a lot of Merlin writers who don't write RPF & a smaller number of Merlin RPF writers who don't write Merlin, so I'm not sure how well that would work :-/

I have a question about Sherlock Holmes, would it be book canon, movie canon, or both?

The way we dealt with it last year was to require that if you signed up for JE, that you could write at least one of the three most popular groups: KAT-TUN, NEWS, or Arashi. This was based on which bands seemed to have the most fic in general. I suppose we could narrow it even further to just KAT-TUN/NEWS because in my experience those two bands have the most crossover of authors, and Arashi is kind of an outlier.
The problem with splitting them is that once you start doing that, there's no clear place to stop. Person A does just NEWS, person B does just Arashi, person C does just Kis-My-Ft2, and suddenly nobody's fandom is large enough to do remix really.
The truth is that Remix is inherently a multi-fandom exchange, and authors need to have a certain amount of flexibility within their fandoms. It's exactly the same as if I'm an HP author who only writes Remus/Sirius, and I get assigned an all-Death-Eater author (which has happened to me). JE, really, is all one big fandom, even if some authors might fixate on just one batch of 'characters.'
I know lots of authors who get an assignment they weren't prepared for in Remix, and end up writing characters or pairings that they've never written before. Some authors are comfortable with the challenge and a certain level of uncertainty in matching, and if other authors aren't, no hard feelings, but maybe Remix isn't for them.
On the other hand, things might change a bit if 50 Kanjani8 authors suddenly want to sign up, but that's not a problem we've had so far.

I'd like to suggest Fullmetal Alchemist and Avatar: The Last Airbender. They're huge, active ficcing fandoms; I qualify for both, several times over; and I can supply plenty of interested parties if you'd like.
