[admin] Step-by-step guide to filling out the Remix signup form
zen, your ocean refuses no river

The signup form should be fairly simple to fill out but here are step-by-step instructions:

Step 1. Choose your pseud

The Archive allows you to have numerous pseudonyms linked to one account. This is where you choose the one you'd like to sign up for Remix with.

Step 2. Select your eligible fandoms

In the "Request" section, under Fandoms 1- 5, check off up to five (5) qualifying fandom(s) in which you've written at least five (5) stories of 500 or more words AND/OR the qualifying fandom(s) in which you've written at least seven (7) stories of at least 100 words (excluding crossovers, works in progress, previous remixes you've written and your safe story if you have one).

You must click on the link that says "53 more fandoms to choose from" to get the full list. It is a link, even though your cursor may not behave like it is.

Step 3. List your fic index URL, safe story, and previous remixes written

In the URL where your stories may be found box, please enter the URL for your website or the index of your stories

In the Safe story and previous remixes written box, please enter the name of your "safe story" if you've got one

Also in the Safe story and previous remixes written box, please enter the name(s) of the story(ies) you've written for past Remix challenges. (If these are too numerous, please make sure they're clearly marked on your index/website)

Step 4. List your optional fandoms

Optional tags are for fandoms in which you are eligible but which are not on the qualifying fandoms list (listing optional fandoms is no guarantee of being matched on them). You must use the AO3 canonical version of the tag for that fandom, so it's wise to do a search to see how your fandoms are listed before filling out the form, as the form will not accept non-canonical variations of fandom tag names.

Step 5. List the fandoms in which you'd like to remix

In the offer section, under Fandoms 1 - 4, check off up to four (4) fandoms (if you've got more than one) in which you would like to remix (you must list at least one (1) qualifying fandom in which you are eligible). (FYI, the form does not weight your desire, so we have no way of knowing which of the four you want most, so make sure you list four you really want to write in.)

Step 6. Optional Fandoms

You may use optional tags to offer fandoms which are not on the eligible fandoms list, but your offer MUST include one (1) qualifying fandom in which you are eligible. Again, listing optional fandoms is no guarantee that you will be matched on them.

Step 7. Submit

To submit your completed signup form, click the "Submit" button.

And, you're done!

You'll be able to edit it until signups have closed and the matching process begins. Your optional fandoms will not show on the participant list, but if you click "Show," you'll be able to see your entire signup.

Please comment here if you have any trouble with the signup form, and one of us will get back to you.

Not a problem, but a question: I'm thisclose to having enough stories to qualify in a fandom, and it's one I'd like have available. What should I do?

Write enough drabbles to qualify before the signups close so you can offer it when you sign up.

Just checking on (6): can you offer to write in a list of optional fandoms you would not otherwise qualify for, or does at least one of them have to meet the qualifying conditions? And (just in case this is possible), can you increase the number of options for the mods by adding others from the standard list?

(Basically, the only fandom I qualify in in HP, but there are at least half a dozen others I would be perfectly happy to write in, especially as they tend to come in 'sets' (Whoniverse shows, Trek shows etc), and therefore would be perfectly happy to be handed as something to remix. Hence the questions above.)

Sorry, I'm not entirely sure I understand your first question. One of the fandoms you offer to write in must be a qualifying fandom in which you're eligible, but it only has to be one fandom, and after that, which fandoms you offer to write in is up to you. So in your case, you have to offer HP, since that's the only qualifying fandom you're eligible in, and then, if you want to, you can offer whatever three other fandoms you want to. Apologies if I'm misunderstanding what you were asking.

As to the other question, I don't know for sure, but since it's a matching algorithm, my guess is that it's 4 fandoms, regardless of whether those fandoms are all qualifying fandoms, or some combination of qualifying and optional fandoms.

I've tried in two different browsers, and cannot access the "53 other fandoms" link -- there does not seem to be a link there.

ETA: There is no actual link on that line. But if you click on any of the first three fandoms, the entire list comes up. Then you must go back and eliminate your first checkmark if you don't write in that fandom.

It opens when I click on that line of text, even though my cursor doesn't turn into an arrow or a hand the way it normally does on a link, and it does so in Firefox, Safari, Opera, and IE, and it does it on both my Mac and this PC, so I don't know why it doesn't work for you. I'd suggest dropping the Archive folks a support ticket.

If we signed up during the sign-up test run a couple weeks ago, do we sign up again? I looked at my profile, and it doesn't appear that I've officially signed up, but I didn't want to accidentally put myself in there twice without checking...

Absolutely, signup again. The test run was on a different server, just to make sure nothing would break once we went live. This time it's the real deal.

So happy to see sign-ups open! I love this fest every year.

Maybe you're already planning on this, but I'd like to request that there be an official or semi-official "Post links to your dear remixer letters here" post so that the comm doesn't get spammed with them the way it has the last couple years.

So glad you're looking forward to the challenge!

And don't worry. We'll put up a post for people to comment with their letters once signups are closed.

So excited about this! Of course, now that I realise there are going to be eligibility checkers, I think I need to get something clarified. Basically, I've ticked the box saying I'm eligible in both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel: the Series as fandoms, but while it's 100% clear on my AO3 account that I qualify for BtVS, I'm conscious that I tend to tag most of my AtS fics as both AtS and BtVS, and have pre-series fics for characters like Wesley and Darla, who I think of as primarily AtS characters though they were originally on BtVS.

I'd hope that my remixer, if we were matched on AtS, would think there was enough for me to qualify, but I'd love to get some clarification on what counts as a crossover in this situation, where crossovers are very much part of canon. Because were BtVS an entirely different universe, I don't think I'd qualify, but as it is I don't know where to draw the line.

What do you do if your stories are saved on more than one site?
My stories are split between fanfiction.net and livejournal (but the form isn't recognizing the fanfiction.net link)

Also, I'm trying to add other fandoms to the optional ones. How do I get a canonical tag? (I've uploaded a story in each fandom to the archive, so do I just have to wait until the tags become canonical?)

What are the fandoms? (You can PM me if you want to keep it a secret for some reason.)

Because of the size and complexity of Remix we don't match on that kind of detailed criteria. One of the risks of remix is that you can be assigned any pairing or genre.

I'm a non-AO3 user who wants to sign up for the Redux. I submitted my request to AO3 for an account, but I haven't gotten any confirmation yet; what happens if the 31st passes and I'm still unable to fill out my remix sign-up form?

We actually have invite codes available just for remix purposes. All we need is an email address.

When I was promoting the Remix on my flist, the question came up if there was a place outside of all the sign up form itself where a person could see the list of qualifying fandoms. Particularly if someone doesn't have a AO3 account, it's a little disappointing to go through the effort of starting to sign up only realize one's fandom isn't an option.

I realize that given the deadline's Wednesday, it may be a moot point for this year, but a suggestion for next year.

Ah, sorry about that!

Qualifying fandoms list:

Angel: the Series, Alias, Battlestar Galactica (2003), Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Farscape, Harry Potter - Rowling, DCU - Comicverse, DCU Animated, Torchwood, Marvel, X-Men (Comicverse), X-Men (Movieverse), White Collar, Leverage, Highlander (1986 1991 1994 2000 2007), Bandom, Popslash, House M.D., Supernatural RPF, Supernatural, Naruto, Saiyuki, Johnny's Entertainment, Dong Bang Shin Ki, Inuyasha - A Feudal Fairy Tale, Yami No Matsuei, Weiß Kreuz, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis, Sherlock Holmes (2009), Star Trek (2009), Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Heroes, West Wing, Sports Night, Merlin (BBC), Pirates Of The Caribbean, Smallville, Lord of the Rings (2001 2002 2003), Lord Of The Rings RPF, Good Omens - Gaiman & Pratchett, due South, Bleach, DCU (Movies), Marvel (Movies), Power Rangers, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Pundit RPF (US), Criminal Minds

Me again. (I know, I know. In case you haven't noticed, I'm rather technologically inept.) It's April 12th, but I can't seem to figure out how (or where) to find my assignment, though I'm definitely signed up. There aren't confirmation emails going out this year, so what do I do on AO3 to access it?

We've had some schedule changes that were announced last Wednesday. (You can view the announcement here.) So assignments won't be going out until Wednesday of this week. Sorry for the confusion!

Okay, perhaps i'm an idiot but....
I looked at the remix page, and saw the list of 'mystery works'.

Then i posted mine, filled out all the stuff...and it posted as a *post*, not as a 'mystery work' with a question mark, etc.

Now, was i just seeing it as i was seeing it because i posted it, and i'm logged in, or was i seeing it like that 'cause i totally screwed it up?

I deleted it, just in case, but...i have *no clue*, here, how to make it a 'mystery work' - Halp!!

And this seems to be the wrong place for this. Arrgh!
But this is the only 'contact the moderators' link i saw. Perhaps i'm just really dense tonight.
Halp halp!

At the bottom of your assignment page, you should have a "Post to Fulfill" button:

When you click it, you're brought to the usual AO3 upload page, except you also have this Associations section:

Remix Redux 9 and your recipient's name should be filled in there, where the black smudge to hide my recipient's name in the screencap is.

Once you post, your assignment will be listed as filled on our end, and it will show up as a Mystery Work to everyone but you - you can see it because you're logged into your account. You can also edit it.

If you have any other questions, you can email us at remixredux @ gmail.com, because we don't monitor these comments. There was a recent post in the community reminding people of that.

I feel really silly here, but was Angel: The Series removed as a qualifying fandom? I've looked through the list three times and I just don't see it. I've signed up for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I have way more Angel: The Series stories, so I'd like to try to get matched up there, too.
